Twice a year Mind the Future organizes a career day at a Minneapolis public school for sixth grade students to meet with young professionals of various backgrounds. The setting is a series of ten to fifteen minute small group conversations where the students can inquire about the path that has led to the professionals’ current position. Through the process students will be able to meet six young professionals for ten to fifteen minutes each.

The goals of these career days are to provoke students to consider their future and to provide them a short term goal by introducing the idea that each has an opportunity to be one of the year’s scholarship recipients. The second goal of the career days is to introduce the students to professionals who are only a few years beyond college themselves. Hopefully, because of the smaller age gap between them, these younger professionals’ advice will be better received by the sixth grade students than if the advice were being given by older people further removed from the struggles of high school and higher education.

The next career day will be this fall at Anwatin Middle School. If you are a young professional who would like to participate please contact us here.
